Ingredients

6 pears 900 g
6 plums, red or black 600 g
2 tbsp lemon juice, freshly squeezed 3/4 lemon
1/2 cup honey 180 g
2 cardamom pods 0.4 g

Method

  1. Peel and core the pears, then cut each into quarters. Wash the plums, then cut them into quarters and remove the stone. Put the fruits in a saucepan, tossing them with the lemon juice, to avoid darkening. Stir in the honey and the cardamome pods.
  2. Cover and cook over medium-low heat about 15 min, with occasional stirring, until the fruits are soft but not falling to pieces.
  3. Let the compote cool down about 30 min, then remove the cardamome pods. Serve lukewarm or at room temperature into cups, spooning the syrup on top.

Minimal ingredients, but extremely tasty (especially with a spoonful of ice cream!). A good way to incorporate fresh fruit into your diet. I would use less lemon next time as the plums I used were quite tart. Overall it was a satisfying and light dessert.

A bit too sweet, next time I would do less honey and maybe add a cinnamon stick along with the cardamom pods. But it's a great tasty dessert!

Made pears and plums look "fancy." Red plums turned the sauce, but not the pears, pink, which was fun.
